The story behind the sound

After breaking his back in the French Alps during avalanche training, Harry Lloyd, aka Waiting for Smith spent a year in bed recovering, where he learned to play guitar. Waiting for Smith is actually a one-man band - Lloyd took the name because Smith (the drummer), never showed up. WFS’s debut single premiered in Clash Magazine and got 17,500 streams, with airplay across the UK (BBC 6Music, TalkRadio, BBC Introducing, VibeFM, JackFM and BBC London), Canada and the USA. He has worked with producer Tom Fuller (Clean Bandit, Years & Years, Tom Walker, & Jess Glynne) and having played at Latitude in 2019, makes his debut for Audio Network with an EP recorded at Abbey Road Studios. His music has been compared to a modern Beck, and, ‘David Bowie meets George Ezra, with a dash of Dire Straits’ (Sat Bisla) and is influenced by JJ Cale, The Kinks and A Tribe Called Quest. Harry’s catchy, poignant songs are also inspired by Leonard Cohen’s lyrics and Billy Joel’s piano.
