The story behind the sound

Miles Gilderdale is a guitarist, songwriter and co-frontman of Grammy-nominated smooth jazz outfit Acoustic Alchemy. Miles got his break in the early 80s as part of Robert Plant-approved rhythm and blues outfit Zoot and the Roots, also featuring trombonist Frank Mizen, trumpet player Grant Kirkhope and saxophonist Snake Davies. During their decade together, the band toured extensively, opening for soul legends like Ben E King and Curtis Mayfield. Following Zoot and the Roots’ split in the mid-90s, Miles joined Acoustic Alchemy as co-frontman alongside Greg Carmichael. Together they’ve earned three Grammy nominations and have won the Gibson Guitars Jazz Guitarist of the Year Award. Almost 30 years on, Acoustic Alchemy remain at the forefront of instrumental guitar music. Outside of the band, Miles writes with producer Dan Mizen.
