The story behind the sound
Perrine Virgile is a French composer based in Los Angeles. After studying classical music at the French Conservatory for 12 years and receiving a degree in Sound Engineering in Nice, Perrine moved to Boston at the age of 20 to attend the prestigious Berklee College of Music. She graduated in late 2014 with a dual major in Film Scoring and Music Business and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career as a film composer. Perrine got her break working alongside Fargo-composer Jeff Russo for seven years. Recent work includes the TV shows The Act, Counterpart, Channel Zero, Cursed and Long Slow Exhale, and movies such as the Sundance-approved Lizzie. She has also provided additional arrangements for the movies Mile 22, Submission and Three Christs, as well as for the video game What Remains of Edith Finch. Most recently, Perrine completed the music for short film Before the Storm and is co-credited as composer for seasons two and three of the Netflix hit series The Umbrella Academy, which earned her a 2022 BMI award. In her solo work, Perrine has performed and conducted world premieres of her pieces ‘Life Was So Beautiful Then’ and ‘Ten Years’ with the Hollywood Chamber Orchestra for the Future is Female: a Concert for Women in Film concert series. She was also one of the eight featured composers of the Emerging Hollywood Composers Concert at the Endless Mountain Music Festival, where her newest concert piece, ‘Odyssey of the New World’, was performed live with an orchestra. Her first orchestral album, Lypophrenia, was recorded at Abbey Road Studios and School Farm Studios in London, and was released in 2023.
